Matter’s thinking on product strategy, UX, interface craft, systems and the practice of making digital products.

AI & Product Design

AI has made interface production dramatically faster. The harder question is no longer how quickly a screen can be made, but whether it deserves to exist.

UX

When teams can ship interfaces in hours, weak decisions compound just as quickly. UX debt is becoming a product problem, not a design cleanup task.

Design Systems

Components create consistency at the interface level. A real design system also shapes decisions, language, behavior and the way teams build products together.

Product Design

The clearest interfaces often hide the most difficult decisions. Simplicity is rarely the starting point—it is what remains after complexity has been resolved.

Design Systems

AI introduces uncertainty, confidence, generation and correction into interfaces. Traditional component systems alone are not enough to manage those behaviors.

Product Teams

When design and development operate as sequential phases, important decisions get lost between them. Better products emerge when implementation is part of design.

UX

Products do not exist as perfect static screens. They exist across loading, empty, error, success, permission and edge-case states.

Accessibility

Accessibility becomes expensive when it is treated as a final audit. It becomes much easier when it is built into components, content and product decisions.

Framer

Framer can dramatically shorten the path from design to production, but it is not the right implementation layer for every digital product.

Product Design

AI is automating parts of design production, but it is also expanding the territory designers are expected to understand and influence.
